Putin Pledges Uninterrupted Energy Supplies to the Indian Nation in Snub of US Demands

During a defiant message to the United States, Leader Vladimir Putin stated to PM Narendra Modi that Russia stands ready to provide “continuous” shipments of oil to India. The announcement came when Putin and Modi met in New Delhi and affirmed their relationship were “immune to outside influence.”

A Signal Aimed at the West

This affirmation, issued after the annual summit, seemed to be a direct challenge at the United States and its allies, which have repeatedly attempted to compel New Delhi into curtailing its historical ties with Moscow. The context comes after recent American measures, including the imposition of import duties targeting New Delhi over its acquisition of Russian oil.

“Russia is a dependable supplier of fuel and everything needed for the growth of India’s energy sector,” Putin stated. “We are ready to keep securing the consistent flow of resources for the booming Indian economy.”

Prime Minister Modi, though he did not naming energy explicitly, reinforced the sentiment by noting that “energy security has been a strong and crucial pillar of the India-Russia alliance.”

Defying American Pressure

Before the summit, during a TV appearance, Putin had questioned Washington's stance over India's energy purchases. The president questioned, “When Washington is entitled to buy our uranium, then why can't India enjoy the identical right?”

The visit represented his maiden visit to India since the beginning of the situation in Ukraine, and both sides undertook a clear attempt to display that the friendship between the two leaders persisted strongly.

A Warm Greeting

Taking an unusual step, Prime Minister Modi personally greeted Putin as he disembarked. They exchanged a hearty embrace as longtime companions before holding a closed-door supper the night before the summit.

Modi in his statement called India's partnership with Russia as “a beacon” and added it was “built on mutual respect and strong faith.”

Reaffirming Strategic Ties

Friday's talks resulted in multiple significant pacts across defence and economic cooperation. One significant result was the completion of an strategic roadmap extending until 2030, which aims to double mutual trade to one hundred billion dollars per year by the 2030 deadline.

Additionally agreed to recalibrate their military partnership. Although Russia continues to be India's largest exporter of defence equipment, its share has reduced over the past decade as India works to diversify its procurement.

The official release emphasized plans for the joint production of advanced defence platforms, though explicit mention of purchases such as the Sukhoi Su-57 were left out.

Ultimately, Moscow and Delhi restated that amid the “current complex, tense, and unpredictable international environment, the Indo-Russian partnership stay resilient to foreign influence.”
