Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
