A woman charged with stalking Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has consistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the court was told call records and information retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and continues to be open.

'I Do Not Need Money'

A separate phone message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I'm her? Then what? Isn't that significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.

The jury was informed that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who collated the data, advised the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to close associates of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.

On that date, Gerry McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."

That day Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship online with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in that winter.

Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be considered genuine in the months preceding the trip to the village, the county, in that winter.

The court learned correspondence between the two defendants, in last November, considering trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.
